Public Policy Institute of Marion County Announces
2005 Traffic & Transportation Study Keynote Speaker

April 4, 2005 – OCALA - FLORIDA - To provide leadership in identifying recommendations for an improved community, the Public Policy Institute (PPI) of Marion County will host keynote speaker, Dom Nozzi as part of the 2005 Traffic & Transportation Study on Wednesday, April 13 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at the College of Central Florida Appleton Museum of Art.

The keynote speaker, Dom Nozzi, Planner for the City of Gainesville, is a nationally recognized author and community planning expert. His most recent book, Road to Ruin: An Introduction to Sprawl and How to Cure It, published by Praeger Publishers offers valuable insight to community planning or the present and future. Mr. Nozzi, a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association, and Congress for the New Urbanism, authored the Future Land Use, Urban Design, and Transportation Elements of Gainesville’s 2001-2011 Comprehensive Plan. In addition he was also the lead planner for Gainesville’s 26-mile greenway trail system.

In addition to Nozzi’s presentation, a panel of Marion County community leaders have come together to discuss. Panelists will discuss priorities within each indicator category and invite reaction and discussion from seminar participants.

This community conversation will provide vital information as part of the framework for the current 2005 Traffic study that will be coordinated by the Public Policy Institute as an objective of the Community Resources Initiative, an organization established within the Public Policy Institute to address issues that shape community quality of life. The Community Resources Initiative is comprised of the United Way of Marion County, Ocala/Marion County Economic Development Corporation, CLM Workforce Connection, Marion County Children’s Alliance, Marion County Health Department, Marion County School Readiness Coalition, and the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce.

Please join in this important dialogue to inspire a plan of action for identifying and tracking the key traffic and transportation issues facing our community. The event is open to the public and there is no registration fee. Reservations for the seminar are requested. Please call the PPI office at 352-854-2322 Ext.1457 to confirm your attendance.
